To avoid breakdowns and accidents with loss of human life and destruction of material goods, NATIONAL POWER CORP reminds the security measures regarding the use of gas in the communal sector.

Owners are responsible for the integrity and good condition of appliances consuming gaseous fuels in privately owned houses and apartments.

  • (art. 2, Annex 3 to the Minimum Security Requirements regarding the exploitation of natural fuel gas distribution systems, approved by Government Decision no. 552 of 12.07.2017).

The persons who operate the installations and household gas appliances are obliged to:

• to listen to the instruction in the technical offices of the distribution system operators or to learn independently the instruction (guideline) regarding the operation of the installations and gas appliances installed in the apartments;

• to ensure the integrity and maintenance of the machine in normal operating condition;

• maintain the normal operation of the gas appliance, flue gas exhaust and ventilation channels, check the draft before connecting and during the operation of the gas appliances, with the discharge of combustion products into the exhaust channel. Before using the gas stove, check that the damper is fully open. Periodically remove the garbage, the broken brick from the "pocket" of the flue gas exhaust channel;

• to close the taps from the machines and to them after using the gas;

• immediately close the taps of the burners of the gas installations in the event of an unexpected stoppage of the gas supply and inform the SDIT of the distribution system operator or the enterprises performing these functions;

• to allow SDIT representatives access to apartments, upon presentation of work IDs, for the examination and repair of gas pipelines and installations - at any time.

The responsibility for the harmless use of installations and devices consuming gaseous fuels for domestic use in houses, apartments and for their servicing is borne by the persons who use gas

  • (art. 3, Annex 3 to the Minimum Security Requirements regarding the exploitation of natural fuel gas distribution systems).

Consumers are prohibited from:

• to carry out gas supply works of the house (apartment, villa), exchange, replacement and repair of gas installations without authorization;

• to carry out the replanning of the rooms where there are gas installations;

• to subject the construction of the gas appliance to some changes. To modify the construction of gas exhaust and ventilation systems. To plug the ventilation channels, "pockets" and the mouths of the ventilation channel intended for cleaning the gas exhaust channels;

• disconnect the automatic protection and adjustment system. To use gas in case of failure of machinery, automatic protection systems, fittings and gas cylinders;

• to use gas in case of disaggregation of masonry, plaster (cracks) in gas-powered stoves and flue gas exhaust channels;

• to use gas after the expiry of the validity period of the act of checking and cleaning the flue gas exhaust and ventilation channels;

• to clean, check the flue gas exhaust and ventilation channels, as well as replace the cylinders of the cylinder installations without following the training (instruction) and receiving the permit from the respective enterprise;

• to use gas installations in rooms with skylights, grills with blinds, grills of closed ventilation channels, with cracks under the doors of bathrooms and kitchens, in the absence of draft in the flue gas exhaust and ventilation channels;

• to leave gas installations in operation without supervision, except for those intended for uninterrupted operation, which have an appropriate automatic system for this purpose;

• to admit access to the operation of gas appliances by children of preschool age, as well as people who do not control their actions and do not know the rules for using these appliances;

• tie ropes, cables to gas pipes, put other materials under the load of gas pipes;

• to use gas and gas installations for purposes other than those provided. To use the stoves for heating the rooms;

• to use the rooms where there are gas installations for sleep and rest;

• use open fire to detect gas leaks.

The responsibility for the condition of the smoke exhaust and ventilation ducts in the block of flats is borne by the enterprises managing and operating the housing fund, and in the houses and apartments with private property rights – by their owners.

In case of reporting the smell of gas, the persons who operate installations and household gas appliances are obliged to:

• to immediately stop the operation of the gas installations, close the taps from the machine and up to them, open the windows and skylights to ventilate the room, call the Dispatch and Technical Intervention Service (SDIT) on phone 904;

• at the same time in the room not to light a fire, not to smoke, not to connect/disconnect lamps and electrical devices, not to use electric bells.

In the case of identifying the smell of gas in the basement, on the stairs, in the yard, on the street, you must:

• to inform SDIT;

• to take actions to evacuate people from the gas-contaminated area, to prevent the connection/disconnection of lamps and electrical appliances, to exclude the occurrence of open flames and sparks;

• organize ventilation of the room until the intervention team arrives.
